Panel Discussion: Coordination and Cx of Today’s Integrated Systems

Description

Moderator Tom Poeling of U.S. Engineering leads all three of the above speakers in a discussion of commissioning in today’s building environment. The speakers will review planning, contracting and commissioning of lighting, security and fire alarm systems focusing on integration with all the associated building systems. The speakers share their lessons learned in coordinating the specifying, installing and commissioning of these systems. They will also answer questions submitted to the BCxA following the thee previous presentations.

  • Tom Poeling, PE, CEM, CCP - U.S. Engineering

    Tom joined the BCxA International Board in 2016, after serving on the Southwest Chapter Board of Directors for seven years. During that period, he served in various officer positions, including two terms as Southwest Board President. He currently serves as chairperson for the Marketing Committee, and is also serving on the NCBC Conference Committee. He has been involved with the commissioning industry for over 25 years, with 20 years as a commissioning provider with EMC Engineers and Eaton Energy Solutions, Inc. He is currently Director of Energy Solutions with U.S. Engineering Company, a top 25 mechanical contractor nationally. He is responsible for coordinating internal commissioning processes during design and construction. He is also involved with planning and executing energy conservation strategies for various types of projects. Tom is a graduate of Colorado State University, holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Lyn Gomes - DPR Construction

    Prior to joining the International Board, Lyn was on the board of the California BCA. She has been on the board of the BCA Annual Conference since 2015. Outside of the BCA, Lyn is a commissioning coordinator at DPR Construction. She is co-chair for the new IES standard on sequences of operation for lighting control systems and teaches classes on lighting control systems and will chair the upcoming revision to DG-29, the Commissioning Process Applied to Lighting and Control Systems. She also teaches classes on lighting control systems at the Pacific Energy Center and LightFair. In her spare time, she is on the advisory board of Techbridge, an afterschool STEM program for girls, who awarded her “role model of the year” in 2009.

  • Wayne A. Dunn, PE, PEng, LEED AP E.W. Dunn Developments, Inc

    Wayne Dunn, PE, has been involved with project management, systems integration, quality assurance and commissioning for over 30 years. 
    Project experience varies from Modern Offices to Laboratories and Launch Complexes with effort focused on equipment/ system validation, improving technical performance and energy efficiency. After years of cool mission critical and system optimization projects, Wayne is now focused on developing technical partnerships that leverage technology and share rewards.

    Society involvement includes USGBC and ASHRAE, having chaired technical committees such as ASHRAE: SSPC 55 Thermal Comfort Standard & ASHRAE: GPC 20 – XML Definitions for HVAC&R. Wayne has published several papers on commissioning relating to risk management, energy performance and owner satisfaction. He is an industry speaker on energy efficiency and commissioning.

    In addition to being a registered professional engineer in USA and Canada Wayne is a LEED AP and holds technical certifications related to indoor air quality and microgrids. He is a member of ASHRAE, USGBC, BCA & ASQ.

  • David LeBlanc, PE, FSFPE

    Dave LeBlanc is a Vice President at JENSEN HUGHES, as a Service Leader for Commissioning and Integrated Testing. He has over 30 years of experience in fire protection engineering and is a registered fire protection engineer. He holds a BS in electrical engineering and a MS in fire protection engineering. Dave is also a Fellow in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. He is also a member of BCxA, NFPA 3 Cx and NFPA 4 Integrated Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems, and NFPA 72. He has written numerous articles related to fire protection systems in various publications.
