The interactive workshop will provide an
overview of how to prepare for and work through integrating systems in New
Construction (NCCx) and Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) projects. In
addition, this session will provide an overview of best practices from
engineers, contractors, and commissioning providers (CxP) with extensive
experience in preparing solid documentation to achieve full systems
integration.
Learn how to generate and
review the drawings and specifications to eliminate shortcomings in
integration, including in the equipment itself. From there, the discussion will
continue to common design gaps that lead to poor/nonexistent
equipment-to-BAS/BMS integration.
Control Integration meetings
are an essential bridge between design review and control system buildout. Learn
who should participate, what should be covered, and what topics to avoid.
It will also cover how these same lessons can apply to an EBCx project. This
interactive virtual workshop will prepare you to shepherd a Control Integration
project team to a successful conclusion for the owner.
Part I: Specifying Controls Systems - Considerations for Busy Designers: Thoughts on the development of the engineered controls plans and specifications to create a useful, comprehensive set of documents (but stay within design budget.)
Presenter: Gerry Massey, PE, LEED AP, CxA, CEM, BECxP, CxA+BE, Senior Commissioning Agent - P2S Inc.
Part II: “The
Cx Provider is a key player for Integrated Project success in Design and
Submittal Reviews”
- Integrated projects often fail coming out of design into construction before there’s ever power at a controller to discover it ‘doesn’t work right’
- The Cx Provider’s reviews can be a key part of the bridge from design into construction, including some examples of how to make them count or strike out.
- The process of reviews count on clear and positive communication of the needs for the equipment, specific BAS provider and owner interests in the outcomes.
- This upfront work will save everyone time and grief at go time and help the CxP avoid going into Warranty to follow problems to resolution.
Part III: “How to make integration work through coordination.” This presentation will cover the nuts and bolts of integration coordination meetings, including how to:
- Identify which integrated systems can best benefit from coordination
- Invite the right people
- Identify the scope and success criteria
- Put the right scope to the right party
- Work with the general contractor to resolve scope gaps
Part IV: “In Service: Controls Integration Post-Project”
Review of both New and Existing integration systems, what has worked and why some have failed: how they can be put back together after installation and well into their service life.
Presenter: Tracey Jumper, CCP, Corporate Director Of Commissioning – EMCOR Mesa
Part V: Panel discussion and Q&A
