New Building Construction: Integrated Systems Testing

Integrated System Testing (IST) can apply to both new and existing buildings at varying levels of complexity. This presentation will provide a general overview of the IST process and address CAN/ULC S1001-11 (Canada) and NFPA 4-2015 (United States) requirements.

Learn how requirements are applied to actual case studies and the process used to create the deliverables.

Next, the presentation will review IST Plan and Commissioning Plan. The IST Plan includes a list of documentation required for review by the project construction team to determine the readiness for IST to commence. The IST Commissioning Plan also provides a tentative testing schedule for when building construction is complete and ready for turnover.

Finally, a draft test matrix is prepared to allow the construction team to envision and physically test or simulate the inter-connected parts of fire alarm, sprinkler system, building management system, lighting control, emergency generator, and other life safety systems found within the building. During the review of project closeout documents, the draft test matrix is completed.

The presentation will explore the challenges and lessons we learned throughout the projects’ progression and how the IST process addressed these issues.
