Contributors Kent Barber, PE, CCP Kent Barber is a Project Executive at Keithly Barber Associates, as performance optimization and commissioning provider firm headquartered in Tukwila, WA. Over the past 3 decades, he has commissioned a wide variety of building and process system types, including: biopharma, medical, industrial, and educational correctional and public safety facilities. His expertise includes project delivery approaches ranging from traditional design/bid/build to highly collaborative integrated delivery. Prior to focusing his career on Building Commissioning, his 45-year buildings industry career included the construction trades, mechanical systems design, and facilities consulting. Kent is a founding member of the Building Commissioning Association. Bryan Scholnick Bryan D. Scholnick is the Managing Partner in Tyson & Mendes’ Seattle office. Mr. Scholnick’s legal career focuses on defending general liability cases with a focus on professional liability and automotive claims. He is an experienced litigator in a variety of cases involving automotive and trucking personal injury claims, automotive rental liability issues, engineering error and omissions claims, medical malpractice, products liability, workplace injuries, wrongful death, construction defect, and breach of contract. Mr. Scholnick has defended and represented architects, engineers, and physicians and hospitals in suits alleging professional negligence. Mr. Scholnick has successfully resolved a variety of cases involving personal injury, alleged engineering design failures, complex construction defect claims, and product liability. He has successfully obtained multiple dismissal of a rental company following motions practice. Mr. Scholnick’s Masters in Mechanical Engineering and science background provides him with helpful knowledge in some of the more complex malpractice, professional liability, product design, and construction claims. Jeff Nichols, PE, CEM, BCxP, LEED® AP Jeff is the President of Engineering Economics, Inc. - a facility systems consulting firm approaching four decades of service in the commercial, industrial, and institutional markets. Jeff and EEI specialize in MEP commissioning, facility energy assessments, augmented technical support for CM and GC, and building optimization services through analytics software. Jeff is a long-time BCxA member and 40-year industry veteran. He is a registered professional engineer, Certified Building Commissioning Professional (ASHRAE), Certified Energy Manager (Association of Energy Engineers), and LEED Accredited Professional (USGBC). Jeff's areas of expertise include system analysis, HVAC operation and efficiency, and energy-efficiency. John Runkle, PE – Intertek John currently serves as President-Elect of the International Board. He is BCxA liaison to IIBEC and assisted with Exam Writing for the Certification of Building Enclosure Professionals. He is a former ATSM liaison for Building Enclosure Commissioning. He actively participates in the BCxA as a presenter for different chapters and teaches multiple Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) courses each year. He serves on the Education, Advocacy, Leadership, and International Committees. He has been active in the initial step for the formation of a new international BCxA chapter.John is Vice President of Building Sciences Solutions for Architectural Testing, Inc., an Intertek company. He brings over 20 years of experience as a building enclosure consultant and enclosure commissioning provider and has been integral to the development of the practice area of building enclosure commissioning domestically and internationally. He has assisted in the development of new testing standards and techniques for the building enclosure. He manages offices throughout North America and staff in the Middle East and China. Mr. Runkle has worked on new construction and retrofit projects for commercial, industrial, and residential structures in most of the 50 states and several countries. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
