Keeping the Power On through Electrical Commissioning

Electrical Commissioning is introduced and implemented within the Commissioning Process during different phases, by different stakeholders at varying times, often with a different name and sometimes not at all. While some standards and guidelines focus on energy consuming equipment or only the electrical testing, very often the equipment and the risk associated with the power behind the energy is only a thought that comes up when it disappears during a power event, scheduled test or when the lights go out. How do we raise awareness regarding the importance of including electrical commissioning for an improved operation with less risk? Cx providers play a role in that process in concert with many of the existing standards, guidelines and as part of the Commissioning Process.

Learning Objectives:

1. Highlight how the Commissioning process for electrical systems applies to different stakeholders.
2. Apply the electrical Commissioning process across the project timeline.
3. List measures you can take to reduce or limit risk in the electrical environment.
4. Discuss the potential risk and cost of not including some level of electrical Cx.
