Manufacturer Support in Commissioning Advanced Control Technologies

Public sentiment is changing, and we are declaring climate emergencies all over and moving away from outdated, inefficient equipment. In addition, buildings themselves are one of the largest energy consumers in the world, bringing more pressure on owners to have top-performing sites. As buildings rarely work as well as the design predicts, products are continually evolving and advancing with technology to combat this issue. This leads to a continual process of learning and understanding and time consumption for all, often overlooking the process to make everything work correctly. In this co-presentation, we will look back at the efforts and journey it takes with some of these newer products and successfully implementing them into a working job site. Case studies include ASHRAE HQ in Atlanta, GA, and the University of Georgia; both are prime examples of owners' drive for energy efficiency and pushing the envelope on design and engineering.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe how a successful collaboration process between a vendor, commissioning provider, and others can ensure a working building.
2. Identify the system performance issues relative to design as the equipment is selected and the impact in making the design work correctly.
3. Discuss the technology advances and changes in devices to further energy efficiency.
4. Express how open communication between all parties can achieve the results desired for the owner.
