IAQ for Construction, Cx, and Beyond

Recent global events intensified the spotlight on three letters: IAQ, or Indoor Air Quality. As a result, owners, tenants, contractors, and commissioning providers (CxPs) alike have renewed their focus on IAQ and how it affects their buildings, occupants, and end users. Given with perspective from both a Construction Manager and CxP, each with firsthand experience working on the front lines of New York City during the pandemic, this presentation will examine IAQ of a building from design through occupancy.
John Vinueza will overview Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRAs) and how they are used to improve patient protections, namely during the Construction Process. John will also review temporary HVAC systems, barriers, and strategies used to maintain IAQ during construction.
Chris Pell will overview IAQ technologies, both existing and emerging, and highlight how common measures already in place in many buildings are among the most proven and cost-effective ways to manage IAQ.

Learning Objectives:

 1. Identify various IAQ enhancement measures for buildings and highlight benefits and challenges of each to be considered during design, construction, and occupancy.
2. Review ventilation guidelines for various occupancy types and explore how ventilation and outdoor air relate to other aspects of building design, commissioning, and ongoing commissioning.
 3. Illustrate the Infection Control Risk Assessment process and Evaluate the different classes of work type, and risk groups
 4. Examine provisions taken during construction activity to maintain IAQ throughout the construction lifecycle.
