Positive Neuroplasticity; presented by Rick Hanson, PhD - 2 CE Credits

Presented by:  Rick Hanson, PhD

Workshop Description:
“Neurons that fire together, wire together.” We develop resilience, happiness, love, wisdom, and other psychological resources through internalizing experiences of these inner strengths into the brain. Unfortunately, most such experiences are wasted on the brain because it evolved a negativity bias that makes it like Velcro for bad experiences but Teflon for good ones. To solve this problem, this intermediate level talk will present the four simple HEAL steps that turn passing experiences into lasting neural resources. We’ll explore how to use these methods to lower anxiety and stress, lift mood, grow confidence, calm, and contentment, and fundamentally, hard-wire happiness into the brain.
Not for Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of the session, Participants will be able to:
1) Describe why the brain evolved a negativity bias;
2) Describe the two stages of learning, including emotional learning;
3) Name the four steps for internalizing positive experiences, using the acronym HEAL.
