EMDR has been shown to be an effective treatment for various forms of trauma and mental health disorders. Dr. Smith-Marek is a licensed marriage and family therapist and EMDRIA certified therapist in EMDR. During this lecture, Dr. Smith-Marek provides insight into her journey into being an EMDR therapist and how EMDR is used to address the needs of clients who have experienced trauma and psychological stressors.

Dr. Erika Smith-Marek is a Licensed Independent Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Florida. She has a private practice in Pensacola and specializes in trauma. Erika is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She is a Certified Trauma Specialist through the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists. She is also an EMDRIA CertifiedTherapist in EMDR and a Full Member of the EMDR International Association. She is the Regional Coordinator for the Northwest Florida EMDRIA Regional Network, which brings EMDR practitioners together for training opportunities related to the practice of EMDR Therapy. She received a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from the Auburn University and a PhD from Kansas State University. Her clinical and research interests have converged around the treatment of trauma and the use of novel exercise interventions for the treatment of trauma and traumatic stress.
