This session will explore evidence-informed ways in which course instructors can actively engage their students in a variety of ways across course delivery modalities (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, hyflex, online). The emphasis for this session will be on thinking about the possibilities that exist to connect with and engage with students to support their learning and attainment of course learning objectives.
- To understand 5-7 different student engagement techniques
- To consider ways in which student engagement techniques can be used across course delivery modalities
- Plan for ways in which these techniques can be applied to the course participants are designing/teaching
5 minutes: Introduction of speaker and topic
30 minutes: Introduction of 4 student engagement techniques/Q&A
30 minutes: Introduction of 4 additional student engagement techniques/Q&A
20 minutes: Ideas about formative assessment as a vehicle for student engagement
5 minutes: Q&A and wrap-up
