The importance of interprofessional education (IPE) is highlighted by its inclusion in the Council on Academic Accreditation’s Standards for Accreditation and the American Speech-Language Hearing Association’s Strategic Plan. Many IPE experiences prepare students to collaborate effectively on healthcare teams; however, explicit IPE instruction is also needed to prepare students for school-based interprofessional practice teams.
This course will cover topics including embedding IPE into new and existing courses; planning one-day IPE events; and creating application-based clinical IPE experiences. The instructor will discuss how to structure these learning opportunities and measure student outcomes. Several examples and resources will be shared to illustrate ways for attendees with limited to advanced familiarity with IPE to enhance IPE in their programs.
