Many physicians and staff members fail to recognize the routine practices and systems in their own offices that may put them at risk. Learn how to identify them at Reducing Liability in Your Medical Office, a free risk management webinar presented by the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP).
This risk management program is presented by CAP Senior Risk Management and Patient Safety Specialists Dona Constantine, RN, and Susan Jones, CPHRM. They will provide practical tools and strategies aimed at mitigating risk in your office. Even minor changes in this area can ultimately increase patient safety and satisfaction.
The hour-long program will:
- Identify key components for an effective risk management plan and tools for the practitioner office, including front office, back office, medical records, and education and training.
- Identify key operational risk areas and ideas to reduce risk, such as effective communication, documentation, recall and tracking, medication management, and more.
- Address staff “scope of practice” issues with licensed and non-licensed office staff.
- Discuss critical issues of documentation with both paper medical records and electronic medical records.
- Discuss methods to increase patient satisfaction and patient safety, such as the quality of the patient experience.
- Discuss how to utilize the CAP Risk Management Self-Assessment Kit.

Susan Jones, CPHRM
Susan Jones is a Senior Risk Management and Patient Safety Specialist at the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP). A Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management, Ms. Jones has worked in the healthcare field for more than 20 years as a healthcare risk management and patient safety specialist, researcher, and educator.
Ms. Jones has garnered extensive experience as a clinical risk manager for hospitals and trauma centers and also managed a 12-physician outpatient pediatric and adolescent practice, where she helped train the practice staff in instituting and operating an electronic medical records system.
Ms. Jones earned a bachelor’s degree (Magna Cum Laude) from Temple University in Philadelphia and obtained her nursing license in 1997. Ms. Jones also holds a certificate in Paralegal Studies from the Harris School of Business, and obtained her Six Sigma training in 2010. She is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Managers. -
Dona Constantine, RN, BS
Dona Constantine is a Senior Risk Management and Patient Safety Specialist at the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP). Prior to joining CAP, she served in various positions throughout her career including certified emergency nurse, case management advisor, and quality manager. She was also the director of Health Projects for the Foundation for Independence in Nicotine Dependence and the executive director of the National Alliance of Mental Illness Orange County. Ms. Constantine is a graduate of Paradise Valley School of Nursing and she obtained a Legal Assistantship Certificate from University of California, Irvine. She earned her Bachelor of Health Science from Chapman University.
