2020 International Webinar: Communicating Risk Information: Explaining Complex Information to Others - Aug 4
Communication is a vital part of the actuarial process. But while actuaries are highly trained and skilled in quantitative techniques, they typically receive much less training and exposure to effective methods of communicating their analyses and results. Indeed, it is difficult enough to communicate technical information; the task is especially challenging when the audience does not share that technical background. This webinar discusses the nature and challenges associated with communicating complex information about risks to others - to senior management in particular, but also to other internal and external parties. The panel addresses practical considerations of communicating in both normal and crisis-related situations, and describes what current research says about how to communicate effectively.
- Approach communication with senior management in a structured and relevant manner.
- Appreciate the nature and challenges of communicating technical information to often non-technical audiences.
- Understand what current research says about effective verbal and nonverbal communication.
