Fresh off of NCCI's Annual Insights Symposium, Sandra and Amanda will deliver the latest analysis of financial indicators, trends, and broad economic markers. This insightful session will dive into the issues that are top of mind for the workers compensation (WC) industry including medical cost trends and the economy and impact on WC.

This presentation will connect all the pieces together and leave you with a deeper understanding of the WC system.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discover how fluctuations in payroll components (wage and employment) impact WC results.
  2. Recognize how loss drivers have influenced WC claim costs and frequency.
  3. Understand how the economic environment and other issues are impacting the WC industry.

CAS Continuing Education Policy
The CAS Continuing Education Policy applies to all ACAS and FCAS members who provide Actuarial Services. Actuarial Services are defined in the CAS Code of Professional Conduct as “professional services provided to a Principal by an individual acting in the capacity of an actuary. Such services include the rendering of advice, recommendations, findings or opinions based upon actuarial considerations.” Members who are or could be subject to the continuing education requirements of a national actuarial organization can meet the requirements of the CAS Continuing Education Policy by satisfying the continuing education requirements established by a national actuarial organization recognized by the Policy. CAS Webinars may qualify for up to 1.8* CE Credits for CAS members.
Participants should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. CAS members earn 1 CE Credit per 50 minutes of educational session time, not to include breaks and/or lunch. *The amount of CE credit that can be earned for participating in this activity must be assessed by the individual attendee. It also may be different for individuals who are subject to the requirements of organizations other than the Casualty Actuarial Society.

  • Sandra Kipust

    Sandra Kipust joined NCCI as Senior Practice Leader and Actuary in April 2023. In this leadership role, she focuses on the operational framework of NCCI’s Actuarial & Economic group and its strategic focus on Thought Leadership.

    Throughout her 20-year career in the insurance industry, Kipust most recently served as senior vice president at Guy Carpenter, where she evaluated client data, recommended reinsurance portfolio structures, and developed benchmark rates utilizing various actuarial methodologies and pricing tools. She also served as analytics lead for the Workers Compensation Center of Excellence and was instrumental in communicating key insights to workers compensation stakeholders. Prior to that, she was senior managing actuary at Liberty Mutual.

    Kipust served on the NCCI, New York Compensation Insurance Rating Board, and New Jersey Compensation Rating & Inspection Bureau actuarial committees. She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and has her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.

  • Amanda Glish

    Amanda Glish joined NCCI in 2016. During her tenure, she has worked in a variety of areas including Ratemaking, Data Quality, Analytics, and research of actuarial methods. Currently, she serves as NCCI’s Actuarial Communications Focus Lead.

    Prior to joining NCCI, Glish worked in personal lines pricing for a private insurance company.

    She graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point with a BS degree in mathematics and economics. She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
