Most professionals truly believe they are dedicated to diversity and inclusion, but few take meaningful steps to make that a reality. In this session, panelists who are on the front lines of implementing diversity and inclusion in the workplace will discuss why they are essential for success and share concrete strategies for diversity and inclusion. The panel will also discuss the findings from the recent CAS-sponsored research on diversity in the actuarial profession, which revealed the key barriers for individuals pursuing the actuarial career. Members may determine that this session qualifies for professionalism CPE credit.

Mallika Bender
Mallika Bender is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. Her thirteen years in the Property & Casualty industry reflect a wide range of experiences, across pricing, reserving and modeling, from Personal to Commercial and Specialty lines, in the United States and Australia. Mallika leads Inclusion, Equity and Diversity efforts for the CAS and is the Co-Chair of the CAS / SOA Joint Committee for Inclusion, Equity and Diversity.

Erika Schurr
Erika Schurr is Chief Actuary of Travelers Canada and leads the Business Intelligence and Analytics function, with over 15 years’ experience in the Property and Casualty Insurance field. Erika is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society. She was elected to the CAS Board of Directors in 2020.
