Forward Momentum: Unwinding the opioid crisis through policy and research

Description and CE Information:
Many case managers may not be aware of federal government priorities and activities to address opioid misuse and overdose. Many of these professionals may not be aware of the latest developments in evidence-based practices and programs related to prevention, treatment and support for recovery from substance use disorders.This presentation will provide an overview of policy priorities and important SAMHSA activities, as well as describe the continuum of evidence practices that can be used to combat the opioid crisis.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the scope of the opioid addiction epidemic and its effects on patients, families and care providers;
  2. Explain the role of case managers as agents to advance application of research-based strategy and patient/family support in the context of the opioid crisis; and
  3. Identify best practices for prevention, treatment and recovery related to opioid addiction, and how case managers can participate in those strategies.

Credit Information:
The Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
