The Rise of American Catholicism, 1808-1908


This online individual course is part of a series that addresses the history of the Catholic Church in North America from the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492 to the present time. This course will chart the progress and effect of Catholic immigration on parish life, the establishment of the parochial school system, and the work of the Baltimore councils. This course will also address the conflicts that resulted from the ethnic diversities in American Catholic culture and the role of Catholics in the Civil War.
