Teaching High School Religion

This online independent study course will focus on a survey of theological knowledge, pedagogical theory, and practical ideas needed to support catechists teaching teen-age students in our contemporary world. Lessons will address the important documents for the catechist that reveal the nature and purpose of religious education, the content of catechesis that support the twofold goal of catechesis; and the significance of the pedagogy of God for guiding catechists in the selection of suitable methodology. Those who complete this course should be able to describe the Church’s understanding of religious education and catechesis for High School students, and identify and seek out the magisterial documents concerned with religious education, in order to apply the principles and methods that best fit their religious education situation.
