Canon Law 101 for Mission Leaders

1 Presentation 0 Sections

This webinar was broadcast on January 29, 2015. The 2013 CHA Mission Leader Survey indicated most mission leaders see a need to grow in their competency of canon law relative to Catholic health care. Internationally renowned canon lawyer, Rev. Francis G. Morrisey, OMI, presented a one hour webinar that introduced mission leaders to the basics of canon law needed in their role. During the webinar, Fr. Morrisey described the purpose of ecclesial law relative to Catholic health care as well as the qualities of a canonically-sponsored "Catholic work." In addition, he articulated the current sponsorship structures within Catholic health ministry and explored the emerging questions for future sponsorship models. Fr. Morrisey also discussed some of the canons dealing with the "alienation of patrimony" that are applicable to Catholic health facilities when they are being sold or closed.
