This learning module is part of a faculty/professional development series for faculty and residents put together by Medical Education International and the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons. This series provides resources and information on a variety of topics aimed at enabling healthcare professionals in their role as educators to pass on the skills, knowledge, and professional characteristics necessary for students and trainees.

After completing this module, the participant should be able to:
  • List three discredited methods of learning.
  • List three techniques that a student can use to improve and practice retrieval of knowledge
  • Give examples of the techniques of elaboration, generation, and reflection
  • Explain the concept of “deliberate difficulties” and give examples of how they might be incorporated into a study plan.
  • Explain the concept of “writing to learn” and give examples of its use.
