Substance use and misuse continues to be an epidemic in our country. Deaths from fatal overdoses are increasing and leave a wake of devastation to families and communities. Many of the patients we see in our offices, clinics and hospitals may disclose their struggles with substance use, while others struggle in silence. As physicians, we are uniquely poised and privileged to start conversations that could save the lives of our patients battling addictions. In this presentation, we will discuss engaging our patients with substance use disorders, evidence-based treatment of opioid use disorders and how treatment can be integrated into our own practices; meeting patients where they are, and leading them on their journey to recovery.

List of Learning Objectives:
  • Identify additional ways of integrating screening for substance use disorders in our daily practice of medicine.
  • Discuss the benefits of integrating outpatient addiction treatment in your own practice of medicine.
