The CMDA Position Statement on Advanced Directives was developed to educate healthcare professionals on the goals of care in an unhurried, uninterrupted, and thorough manner with patients in order to help them understand the potential benefits and burdens of aggressive end-of-life treatment options before decisions are made.

List of Learning Objectives:
  • Articulate the nature and intent of an Advance Directive, including the ideal time and circumstance to establish an Advance Directive.
  • List the various types of end-of-life orders, for example, DNR, DNI and POLST.
  • Identify the pivotal role for a Durable Power of Attorney and surrogate decision-makers.
  • Describe the biblical, social, medical and ethical considerations surrounding end-of-life planning from a Christian standpoint. 

Accreditation: Christian Medical & Dental Associations is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
