Building Resilient Structures Using Insulated Concrete Forms a Web Reach with Tremco.

About This Program

Resilient design of educational structures in the twenty-first century is imperative given increased intensity and frequency of major storms. Buildings must withstand environmental impacts to their exteriors while simultaneously protecting the students and teachers in their interior. The loss of academic facilities has devastating short- and long-term effects on the communities they serve. In this course we will discuss how to incorporate insulating concrete forms (ICF’s) as a sustainable wall assembly option to reinforce concrete or mass walls and high insulation and meet the challenges of designing and building energy efficient and resilient structures that can withstand most, if not all natural disasters. Architects, Engineers, General Contractors and Building Owners will gain a thorough understanding of ICF systems including thermal envelope performance, design integration, construction processes, and renewable energy sources for consideration and implementation into overall building envelope design and construction.

Session Takeaways

  • Discuss resilient design goals and objectives for critical buildings and shelter structures.
  • Identify newly adopted International Building Code (IBC) requirements for ICC 500 and resilient design of critical structures for high probability tornado and hurricane areas.
  • Appreciate the features, benefits, and fundamentals of Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) wall construction as it relates to resilient design.
  • Recognize ICF compatible cladding options to include Textured Acrylic Finishes (TAFS) providing a wide range for architectural style and aesthetic options, including stucco, brick, granite, limestone, metal panel and weathered steel.
