Understanding the Push Toward Low-Carbon Emissions Materials and Products with Vicki Worden, President and CEO of Green Building Initiative

About This Program

The years of 2022 and 2023 have ushered in significant change in focus for product specification aimed at buildings and infrastructure. From global environmental objectives to specific federal policy changes, the private sector is being asked to respond with the ability to specify low-embodied carbon materials. Discernment is in progress around data and tools, meanwhile federal policy in particular is driving forward change that will impact both public and private sector procurement practices. This webinar will inform specifiers and those that support sustainability initiatives on current drivers resulting in greater demand for validated low-embodied carbon materials.

Session Takeaways

  • Understand the global environmental drivers of ESG and Net Zero that are reshaping business as usual to focus on specifying low-embodied carbon materials within the commercial real estate and infrastructure industries.
  • Learn how these drivers, particularly federal policy including GSA and EPA, are influencing product specifications and data demands in public and private sectors.
  • Demonstrate how green building rating systems, like GBI’s Green Globes, are adapting to reflect new market demands.
  • Identify tools to support these new specification requirements while understanding opportunities to further participate in refinement of federal government strategies.
