Environmental Safety, EPA Plant Permits, and Clean Air Act Considerations

Like many other food production facilities, distilleries have the potential to produce regulated emissions, whether through its boilers, grain dryers, aging warehouses, or other processes, and may have to comply with federal and state air permitting requirements. While not all distilleries will require EPA permits, those facilities large enough to qualify will face a complicated and arduous process of securing and renewing their EPA Title V permit per the Clean Air Act. This course details environmental safety considerations, what emissions requirements exist for distilleries at the federal and state levels, what distilleries must do to remain in compliance, and what considerations you should keep in mind when addressing these issues.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the patchwork of federal and state permitting and emissions regulations and how they apply to distilleries
2. Identify environmental risks associated with different aspects of the distilled spirits operations, with a focus on manufacturing activities
3. Determine your organization's responsibilities under federal EPA regions and state air pollution control jurisdictions
4. Gain the tools to be able to analyze your facility’s emission points and quantities to determine your emission requirements and evaluate future facility expansion plans for EPA permitting purposes
5. Get tips and guidance from experts on navigating complex compliance issues
