This course introduces distilled spirits producers to energy and climate solutions that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency in the production process. Participants will learn about opportunities for energy efficiency, electrification, and renewable energy, including solar, wind, geothermal, and green hydrogen.

Learning Objectives
1.Understand the importance of energy and climate solutions for sustainable distilled spirits production.
2.Identify opportunities for energy efficiency in the production process.
3.Evaluate the potential for electrification in distilled spirits production, including process heating and vehicles.
4.Analyze the potential for renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, geothermal, and green hydrogen, to power distilled spirits production.

    Danny Macri is an industrial sector manager with the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR program, a voluntary government program that works with manufacturers to increase energy efficiency and save money across their operations. Danny manages ENERGY STAR industrial plant certification and oversees initiatives with several manufacturing sectors, including distilleries. Danny is a Certified Energy Manager® and holds a Masters in Environmental Management. Outside of work Danny is a home brewer and enjoys with finding for opportunities to incorporate spent grains into baked goods.
