Program Overview:

State law requires all Florida-licensed physicians (MDs and DOs) and healthcare professionals licensed by the state boards to complete a new, 1-hour CME on Human Trafficking by Jan. 1, 2021. Human trafficking occurs in all states and in more than 100 countries worldwide. Victims have numerous physical and psychological needs that require compassionate care, and they interface with the healthcare system everyday and often leave undetected. In human trafficking, no population is exempt as it affects all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, and ethnicities. Due to the wide health impacts of human trafficking, healthcare professionals are in a unique and trusted position to interact with the victims, providing them the responsibility to play a critical role in identifying victims, preventing human trafficking, and treating conditions resulting from it. It is therefore important for healthcare professionals to be fully informed and educated about human trafficking that includes the essential components of prevention, identification, treatment, and resources available to victims. Through proper training, physicians and other healthcare professionals can help create a healthcare system that is a place of healing for victims of this human rights abuse.
