About the Speaker: Dr. Jennifer Roth Maynard completed her undergraduate degree at University of Maryland in 2001. She attended University of Maryland School of Medicine for her medical education, followed by Family Medicine Residency at Christiana Care Health Services in Wilmington, DE where she served as Chief Resident. Dr. Maynard then completed her Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic Florida in 2009.

She continues as a Family and Sports Medicine Consultant for Mayo Clinic Florida and holds the academic rank of Assistant Professor Family Medicine. Dr. Maynard serves as the Program Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic Florida.

Dr. Maynard enjoys her role as the Head Team Physician for Fletcher High School and Sandalwood High School. She also helps with coverage at the Florida School of the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, FL.

Dr. Maynard is the immediate past Chair of the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and serves as the Chair of the Executive Board of the Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program.

Dr. Maynard proudly serves as the Medical Advisor for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). In this role she provides medical guidance and coordinates comprehensive health care for international professional women's tennis players as they travel the globe on the WTA tour.

Program Overview:
This 50-minute webinar will provide learners with latest information and updated documentation required for the Preparticipation Physical Evaluation screening process.

On February 9, 2023, the Florida High School Athletic Association’s (FHSAA) voted to remove the questions regarding female athletes’ menstrual history from the preparticipation sports physical form. The FHSAA’s approval vote also included changes to who receives the PPE form, such that only one page of the form is required to be submitted to the school, while the other pages can be kept with a parent or doctor. This webinar will address the changes to the form, as well as provide latest developments in standard of care for providing preparticipation physicals for student athletes.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
  • State the purpose of the Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE)
  • Implement the “new” FHSAA EL2, adapting the national standard based on the 5th PPE monograph
  • Review pertinent medical history questions
  • Perform a complete Physical exam including skin exam, Marfans features, and functional testing
  • Recognize the importance of Cardiac screening with NEW FHSAA recommendations
  • Effectively complete and understand the importance of “page 4” of the EL2

  • Reflect on the current and best practices discussed and how the information may change your own current practices.
  • Use the practice cases to challenge your understanding of substance use disorders or clinical practice guidelines.
  • Complete the CME Activity Evaluation at the end of the webinar.
  • Your CME certificate will be emailed and will be available for printing after you have submitted the activity evaluation. Please keep your certificates for your records and for your DEA and/or state re-licensure requirements. Do not send certificate copies to the FAFP or the AAFP offices.
  • CME credits earned from this activity will be reported to AAFP and CE Broker within 30 days, provided you have completed and successfully submitted the evaluation.
