Current and Innovative Non-Pharmacological Interventions for Multiple Sclerosis

Course Description

This presentation will review important concepts relating to Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Evidence-based treatment strategies will be discussed through research, patient examples, and videos, which will assist the participants in treating common symptoms in individuals with mild to moderate MS. The use of Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) will be discussed as an innovative intervention to treat weakness. It’s application, efficacy, and safety will be addressed in the healthy population, as well as in individuals with MS.

Learning Objectives

1.The participants will understand the pathophysiology, prognostic factors, and types of Multiple Sclerosis.
2.The participants will be able to utilize evidence-based recommendations for treatment of each of the following symptoms: gait, endurance, balance, flexibility, fatigue, and weakness.
3.The participants will understand the application and benefits of Blood Flow Restriction and describe the rationale for its use in healthy and neurologically impaired populations.
4.The participants will identify precautions and contraindications of Blood Flow Restriction.
5.The participants will understand the current literature regarding the use of Blood Flow Restriction on people with Multiple Sclerosis.
