FSMB Town Hall Meeting - February 1, 2022

About the Town Hall
During this Town Hall, FSMB leaders provided updates on a wide range of topics important to medical regulators.  Dr. Kenneth Simons, FSMB Chair, and Dr. Humayun Chaudhry, FSMB President and Chief Executive Officer, lead a discussion and provided updates on COVID-19, misinfomation and disinformation in medicine, telemedicine trends, and the opioid epidemic. Attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions about FSMB activities and initiatives, as well as provide input and feedback to FSMB staff.

About the Speakers:

Humayun “Hank” Chaudhry, DO, MACP, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the FSMB. From 2016 to 2018 Dr. Chaudhry also served as Chair of the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA), which represents 116 members in 48 nations. Dr. Chaudhry is a graduate of New York University, the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) College of Osteopathic Medicine and Harvard University’s School of Public Health. He completed an internship at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York, followed by an ACGME-accredited residency in Internal Medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital, New York, where he spent an additional year as Chief Medical Resident.Dr. Chaudhry spent 14 years with the United States Air Force Reserve, rising to the rank of Major and serving as a Flight Surgeon. He spent two years as Health Commissioner for Suffolk County, New York, overseeing 1,300 employees and a budget of $400 million. He is co-author of “Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine,” 4th edition and “Medical Licensing and Discipline in America,” and in 2016, Dr. Chaudhry was recognized by Modern Healthcare magazine as one of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders in America.

Kenneth B. Simons, MD, is the Senior Associate Dean for GME and Accreditation at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Executive Director and Designated Institutional Official of MCW Affiliated Hospitals, Inc., overseeing 98 ACGME accredited programs ith over 925 house staff. He was appointed to the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board in 2011 and was elected as Chair in 2013 annually through 2020. During his time on the WI Board, Dr. Simons also served on its credentials and legislative liaison committees, among others. Since being appointed to the WI Board, he chaired FSMB's State Medical Boards' Appropriate Regulation of Telemedicine (SMART) Workgroup, whose report was unanimously adopted by the FSMB House of Delegates (HOD) in 2014. Dr. Simons chaired the FSMB’s Workgroup on Board Education Service and Training (BEST) (2016-2020); Ethics and Professionalism (2019-2020); Governance Committee (2018-2019); Planning Committee (2020-2021); and Workgroup on Telemedicine Consultations (2014-2016). He is a member of the Executive, Compensation and Investment Committees as well as the FSMB Foundation Board of DIrectors. Elected Chair-elect of the FSMB in May 2020 by the HOD, Dr.Simons’ term as Chair began in May 2021. In addition to his service with the FSMB, Dr. Simons previously served on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Board of Directors, and currently serves on the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Board of Directors and Executive Committee, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), and is chair of the ACGME-International Review Committee for surgical and hospital-based disciplines and past chair of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Commission (IMLCC). He received his Medical Degree from Boston University, completed his residency ain ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and completed a fellowship at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California-Los Angeles.
