     Mr. Elmer W. Gray earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Clemson University in 1985. He immediately began work with Dr. Ray Noblet at Clemson in the Medical and Veterinary Entomology Program. Shortly thereafter, he began graduate work and in 1990, he received his Masters of Agriculture Degree from Clemson University specializing in Medical and Veterinary Entomology.

    Mr. Gray was instrumental in moving the black fly laboratory to UGA where he currently serves as a Medical and Veterinary Entomologist with the Department of Entomology. He has held this position for the past fifteen years. His primary duties include conducting research with black flies with an emphasis on operational control and black fly population suppression. In addition he conducts the Public Health Extension Entomology program for Georgia.
    Mr. Gray supervises the staff of the University of Georgia Black Fly Rearing and Bioassay Laboratory. This laboratory operates the world’s only black fly colony and conducts a variety of research related to larval black fly feeding and Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis insecticidal protein induced mortality. He is also a commercial pesticide applicator, licensed in two states, specializing in operational black fly suppression.
