Chief Program Officer, Workers, Environment and Climate
Amy Liebman (she/her) has devoted her career to improving the safety and health
of disenfranchised populations. She joined Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN) in
1999 and currently serves as the Chief Program Officer: Workers, Environment
and Climate. With MCN she has established nationally recognized initiatives to
improve the health and safety of immigrant workers and their families. She
oversees programs ranging from integrating occupational and environmental
medicine into primary care to designing worker safety interventions. She is a
national leader in addressing worker safety and environmental justice through
the community health worker (CHW) model. She has been a strong advocate for
worker health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading programs to
improve access to care and culturally contextual education for migrants and
immigrants. Prior to her current position, she directed numerous environmental
health and justice projects along the US-Mexico Border including an
award-winning, community-based hygiene education program that reached thousands
of families living without water and sewerage services. She has spearheaded
policy efforts within the American Public Health Association to support the
protection of agricultural workers and served on the federal advisory committee
to the EPA Office of Pesticide Programs. Her programs have won several awards
including the 2008 EPA Children’s Environmental Health Champion Award and the
2015 National Safety Council Research Collaboration Award. In 2011, Liebman
received the Lorin Kerr Award, an APHA/Occupational Health and Safety Section
honor recognizing public health professionals for their dedication and
sustained efforts to improve the lives of workers. She is a past Chair of
APHA’s Occupational Health and Safety. Liebman has been the principal
investigator and project manager of numerous government and privately sponsored
projects. She has authored articles, bilingual training manuals and other
educational materials dealing with environmental and occupational health and
migrants. Liebman has a master’s degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs
at the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Arts from the Institute
of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Liebman has
traveled throughout Mexico, Guatemala, Argentina, Chile, and Europe. She is an
avid soccer fan and loves to spend time with her husband and two sons. Together
they spend a lot of time outdoors.
Ben Fulgencio-Turner leads the Climate for Health program, a
national initiative to build climate leadership and action in the health
sector, advancing solutions that protect personal and community health. Ben
started his career as a community organizer in New Orleans, supporting
neighborhood leaders and building power in communities recovering from
Hurricane Katrina. He has studied and worked within systems of safety-net
health care for over fourteen years, developing cross-sector partnerships to
address root causes of health inequities. He received a BA from Tulane
University and a MPP from Georgetown University.
The Associate Director of Extreme Heat Initiatives at the
Arsht-Rock Resilience Center. She leads Arsht-Rock's engagement with the
Extreme Heat Resilience Alliance (EHRA), and represents Arsht-Rock in EHRA's
leadership. EHRA is a multi-sectoral global coalition focused on extreme heat
resilience. Ms. Phillips also works with Arsht-Rock's partners on innovative
heat financing products, and provides support across the Arsht-Rock Heat
Initiatives portfolio, including the Heat Action Platform and Chief Heat
Officer programming. She has a particularly strong focus on climate
justice, community-informed resilience planning, and youth education. Ms.
Phillips' background is in environmental science and policy.
Greg has played a substantial role in developing the clean
energy, green building, and decarbonization industries as a long-time thought
leader and impact investor. He founded theSmart Surfaces Coalition in
2019 to slow global warming, redress social inequity, and build urban
resilience.
Greg served as Managing Director of Good Energies, a several billion-dollar
global clean energy PE/VC fund investing in clean energy and low carbon
companies. He served for six years as the Director of Financing for Energy
Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the US Department of Energy. Greg played a
large role in designing and developing LEED, the green building standard. He
was hired by the World Bank to guide the creation of a new World Bank green
building design standard. He was hired by the Enterprise community partners to
guide development of the first and still leading green design standard focused
on low income housing, calledGreen
Communities. Greg received the first US Green Building Council Lifetime
Achievement Award.
Greg is the author of widely referenced studies on the cost effectiveness of
greening infrastructure, including the book Greening Our Built World,
Costs Benefits and Strategies. He consults and testifies on topics related
to clean energy, green cities and financing issues before/with the US Congress,
the World Bank, the Knesset, the UN, and the National Academy of Sciences. Greg
earned an MBA from Stanford University and an MPA from Princeton University and
is a Certified Energy Manager.
Dr. Lisa Patel is the Executive Director of the Medical
Society Consortium on Climate and Health, and Clinical Assistant Professor of
Pediatrics at Stanford School of Medicine. She is a former Presidential
Management Fellow for the Environmental Protection Agency where she coordinated
the US Government’s efforts on clean air and safe drinking water projects in
South Asia in collaboration with the World Health Organization and received the
Trudy A. Specinar Award for her work. She is a member of the Executive
Committee for the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Environmental Health
and Climate Change and a faculty mentor for Stanford Climate and Health. As a
mentor, she works with students and residents on projects related to
climate-resilient schools, environmental justice, sustainable healthcare, and
medical education curriculum reform. She maintains her clinical practice as a
pediatric hospitalist caring for premature infants, attending deliveries, and
caring for hospitalized children. Lisa received her Master’s in Environmental
Sciences from the Yale School of the Environment, her medical degree from the
Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and completed her training in pediatrics at
UCSF.
