The presenters will highlight their work in understanding and confronting the co-occurring epidemics of opioid use, HIV, hepatitis, stress and mental health.

Contributors

  • Moderator: Kathy Lituri, RDH, MPH

    a dental hygienist, faculty member and director oforal health promotion at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. A long-standing Oral Health leader, Kathy has also served as a past Intersectional Council Chair and represented the group on the Executive Board of APHA.

  • David Perlman MD

    Chief of Infectious Diseases at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is the Director of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Social-Behavioral Theory Core at the multi-institutional NIDA P30 Center of Excellence, Center for Drug Use and HIV/HCV Research.

  • Tanya Saraiya PhD

    is a licensed clinical psychologist and incoming Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Her research focuses on developing and testing treatments for PTSD and co-occurring substance use disorders. Her work focuses on women and racial/ethnic minorities and expands the understanding of psychological trauma.
