Skill Building Webinar: Advanced Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) 2014

Presenter: Keith W. Boone
Director, HL7 Board of Directors; Standards Geek, GE Healthcare IT
Program time: This series of two 90-minute webinars was presented in August 2014

Description
CDA implementation requires understanding the CDA refinement of the RIM (the CDA RMIM), the Version 3 data types and how these combine with controlled vocabularies to form "clinical statements." This tutorial reviews the principle of semantic interoperability with CDA and how they are reflected in the CDA model and implemented in the CDA schema. It also covers the CDA RMIM, schema and data types and a detailed walkthrough of samples of CDA documents, coded using clinical statements. Part 2 provides a history and overview of US Implementation Guides and includes: CCD, IHE, Health Story and CDA Consolidation.
Intended Audience:
  • Those needing to learn more about CDA, Release 2, its derivation from the RIM, and issues relevant to implementing CDA 2 solutions
  • Implementers needing to work with CDA, and wanting a review of the details

Objectives:
Upon completion of this tutorial, students will be able to:
  • Describe the components of CDA
  • Recognize the XML markup required to implement solutions
  • Discuss the issues surrounding semantic interoperability using CDA

Prerequisites:
  • Completion of the Introduction to the Clinical Document architecture (CDA) tutorial recommended but not required
  • Basic knowledge of the Version 3 standards (as can be obtained from the Introduction to Version 3 tutorial series)
