The HL7 FHIR Study Guide will benefit those who
want to learn about the HL7® FHIR® standard. It will also be useful in preparing for
the HL7 FHIR certification examination conducted by HL7 International (hl7.org). The guide covers all HL7 FHIR technical interfacing skills
that are highly desired for professionals to perform their job in a proficient
manner. Though this guide is intended to be version agnostic, i.e. independent
from the current version, some questions may relate to FHIR STU3. Readers are
encouraged to use the most recent FHIR version (available online) as a
resource.
A study guide is only one tool towards
understanding the standard and becoming certified. Studying the material from
the study guide is not sufficient to pass the exam. In addition, one should
participate in face-to-face (virtual or in-person) and/or online training to
complement their study. When preparing, test takers should acquaint themselves
with HL7 FHIR R4 Specification which is freely available at hl7.org/fhir.
How to Use The Guide
The study guide provides an overview of the relevant
subject matter and it is assumed that users of the guide will also study the
standard documents available at hl7.org. After thorough initial preparatory
study, the guide can be used to focus specifically on topics that are relevant
for the FHIR certification exam and as an index to supplementary material. The
durations listed for each section are estimated durations for a diligent
reading and study of the relevant material. The amount of time required to
master the material may vary depending upon study habits and prior knowledge of
the subject matter. Those preparing for the certification exam are encouraged
to complete all chapter-specific knowledge exercises, essay questions and
summary tests for best comprehension of the material.
Note: Answers to the guide’s test questions and
suggested answers to the exercises appear at the end of the guide.
