20231204 Referrals and Orders: How to Ask for Stuff in HL7 FHIR

HL7 FHIR provides a variety of mechanisms to ask a system or user to do something. This includes making referrals, creating orders and seeking fulfillment of them, asking for a change to resource status, asking patients or other providers to do something, etc.
This tutorial will review the different capabilities FHIR has around making requests and managing their fulfillment and how to choose the best approach for a given use case.

This Tutorial Will Benefit:

  • Architects and data analysts
  • Anyone responsible for designing FHIR interfaces related to orders and tasks

Upon Completion of This Tutorial, Students Will Be Able To:

  • List the three workflow resource patterns and explain their relationships
  • Differentiate between 'Request' resources and 'Task' resources and understand their purposes
  • Describe the different mechanisms for 'grouping' requests and when each mechanism is used
  • Be able to choose between the different 'fulfillment' request mechanisms based on the tradeoffs associated with each mechanism
  • Explain when a Request resource is necessary and when Task alone suffices

Pricing

  • HL7 Member: $300
  • Non-Member: $450
