2022 IADR/APR General Session

The 100 th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR was held in conjunction with the 5th Meeting of the Asia Pacific Region. The virtual meeting was attended by individuals from around the world. Those attending the meeting could choose from among 207 Interactive Talk sessions, seven Focused Learning Sessions, three Hands-on Workshops, five satellite symposia, 52 Symposia, one Distinguished Lecture Series and a plenary.

The recordings in this library from the meeting are a selection of the science that was to be presented as part of the General Session. These recordings give you the opportunity to participate in the meeting and hear from leading researchers. The recordings include the IADR Distinguished Lecture Series speaker and symposia from a collection of scientific groups and networks.

This session can be purchased as part of the full meeting recordings within the product bundles

Session Description
Methodology is a key determinant of the quality and applicability of clinical dental research. Poor methodology, including inappropriate study design, imbalanced outcome selection, erroneous statistical analyses, as well as incomplete and ambiguous research reporting could result in unreliable findings and misleading evidence, rendering numerous efforts devoted to clinical research avoidably wasted. Therefore, the ability to identify and avoid common methodological issues in the design, execution and reporting of clinical dental research, is of vital importance to many stakeholders including dental researchers, dental practitioners, dental educators, and journal editors. In addition, from CONSORT 2010 to CONSORT-WPT, from STARD to QUADAS-2, from traditional data synthesis to network meta-analyses, and from single-center clinical trials to practice-based research, the recent years have seen the development and application of many new methods in clinical dental research, which can enable dental researchers to overcome the inherent limitations of traditional approaches, give them valuable opportunities to further promote the translation of good clinical dental research findings into evidence-based clinical practice. Therefore, this symposium will present a series of selected new developments in the methodology of clinical dental research, including novel approaches, tools and experiences in evidence synthesis, practice-based research network, as well as the design and reporting of both clinical trials and diagnostic studies.

Learning Objectives
  • Identify typical methodological issues in clinical dental research, including systematic reviews, clinical trials, and diagnostic studies.
  • Understand the rationale and implications of new developments in evidence synthesis and practice-based network research.
  • Avoid common pitfalls in the design, execution and reporting of clinical trials and diagnostic studies, be familiar with the latest international standards and relevant tools
