2022 IADR/APR General Session

The 100 th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR was held in conjunction with the 5th Meeting of the Asia Pacific Region. The virtual meeting was attended by individuals from around the world. Those attending the meeting could choose from among 207 Interactive Talk sessions, seven Focused Learning Sessions, three Hands-on Workshops, five satellite symposia, 52 Symposia, one Distinguished Lecture Series and a plenary.

The recordings in this library from the meeting are a selection of the science that was to be presented as part of the General Session. These recordings give you the opportunity to participate in the meeting and hear from leading researchers. The recordings include the IADR Distinguished Lecture Series speaker and symposia from a collection of scientific groups and networks.

This session can be purchased as part of the full meeting recordings within the product bundles

Session Description
The National Dental Research Institute Singapore (NDRIS) has established the GLOBICS, a Global Consortium of Oral Health-Related Birth Cohort Studies (OHRBCS). This project seeks to build a long-lasting international collaborative research group among established OHRBCS to leverage existing longitudinal data and generate more impactful oral health outcomes. This objective includes strengthening the collaboration between OHRBCS worldwide, particularly engaging the few birth cohort studies carried out in low and middle-income countries and disseminating the collaboration's findings through scientific meetings and journal articles. It intends to address new research questions and revisit old ones which may benefit from increased statistical power and consistency in pooling data from multiple OHRBCS. This approach also allows researchers to explore interactions between oral health determinants and various socio-cultural influences, economic conditions, and health systems. Particular emphasis will be given to the methods used to collect data on sugar intake and the analytical approaches incorporated in studies of this nature. The aims of this symposium are (i) to disseminate the main actions of the Consortium; (ii) to describe the nutritional and dietary data collection in OHRBCS from middle-upper and high-income countries; (iii) to describe the dental care data collection in OHRBCS from middle-upper and high-income countries; (iv) to present an overview of the potential methodological aspects connected to the pooled analysis. This symposium is a call for action after the Lancet Series on Oral Health (2019) and a workshop on running OHRBCS held in Bangkok in 2019. It is an opportunity to debate methodological challenges, discuss similarities and dissimilarities among the cohorts, and the potential for further pooled analyses.

Learning Objectives
  • To provide an overview of the existing OHRBCS worldwide
  • To identify differences and similarities among the OHRBCS
  • To identify potential collaborative work
