Session Description
Modern implant therapy is regarded as a highly predictable treatment to restore the missing teeth. However, dental implant treatment has been challenged lately by the onset of inflammatory reaction around implants. Peri-implantitis, characterized by inflammation of the peri-implant mucosa and loss of supporting bone, has been reported in around one fifth of the patients after functional loading for several years. A weighted mean prevalence rate of 43% across Europe and 22% across South and North America has also been reported recently. The diagnosis, prevention and treatment of peri-impalntitis has caught great attention in academic community in decades.

A panel of context experts who involved in this field will discuss current situation and novel advances especially on the treatment strategy and prevention concept of peri-implantitis. They will at first review the scope of peri-implantitis in China with a special focus on its epidemiology, then discuss the risk assessment models with practical suggestions for its prevention. Novel techniques and critical factors in its treatment will be presented with clinical evidence, and at last a reflection for the empirical dental treatments will end this session.

  • Understand the epidemiological situation and overall social-economic impact of peri-implantitis
  • Acknowledge the practical concept of risk assessment for the prevention of peri-implantitis.
