2023 IADR/LAR General Session with WCPD

The 2023 IADR/LAR General Session & Exhibition with WCPD provided dental, oral, and craniofacial health scientists with the opportunity to present, discuss, and critique their latest and most cutting-edge research at a 100% in-person gathering in Bogotá, Colombia. The meeting was attended by 1,667 individuals from 76 countries.

The recordings in this library from the meeting are a selection of the science that was presented at the General Session. These recordings give you the opportunity to participate in the meeting and hear from leading researchers. The recordings include IADR Distinguished Lecture Series speakers and symposia from a collection of scientific groups and networks.

This session can be purchased as part of the full meeting recordings within the product bundles

Session Description
The first European study on recession, dentine hypersensitivity, erosive tooth wear, periodontal health status and associated risk factors in 3,187 healthy volunteers across seven countries (UK, France, Spain, Italy, Finland, Latvia and Estonia) was conducted in 2011 in young adults. Now just over 10 years on, data from a second study, completed in 2022, and capturing similar prevalence and risk factors in 3,551 adults of all age groups, also undertaken across seven countries (UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Germany), has been analysed and can be reported. These unique data sets demonstrate significant positive associations between clinically elicited dentine hypersensitivity, erosive tooth wear and gingival recession, and between gingival recession and periodontal status with high prevalence of all conditions. This symposium will provide an overview of the data. The strength of the data from both studies confirms the value of large prevalence studies of dental attenders including both clinical examination and questionnaire data. Observed country and cohort specific differences in behaviours and prevalence figures will be discussed along with the value of targeting of countries with a broader spectrum of diets, dental practices, and habits to improve understanding of how known risk factors interact to cause or exacerbate these conditions.
