Session Description
Arising out of the WHA75 in May 2022, the WHO global oral health action plan (2023-2030) lists 94 actions under 6 strategic objectives which are as follows: 1. Oral health governance, 2: Oral health promotion and oral disease prevention, 3: Health Workforce, 4: Oral health care, 5: Oral health information systems and 6: Oral health research agendas. Under each of these objectives, the issues of integration, inequalities and UHC are either explicit or implied. We are now facing the most critical era in the history of the OH profession in that global collaboration is needed to turn strategy into action. Such collaboration will need to be co-ordinated and translational if many of the actions are to be meaningfully addressed by 2030. This Workshop proposes, in the spirit of Vision 2030 and the integration of oral diseases with other NCDs at WHA74, 75, a strategic examination of the research actions that will identify gaps and propose research that will enhance integration and address integration, inequalities, and by whom if progress towards UHC is to be made by 2030. This will provide impetus for the integration agenda beyond the lip service into concrete actions and beyond sporadic examples by motivated enthusiasts in a handful of global settings. If examples anywhere in the world can be identified as facilitators of the proposed Action plans these will be identified and scrutinized with a view to adoption or adaptation. This can be used as a template for other action oriented agendas in different aspects of the WHO Global OH Action Plan or the SDGs.

Learning Objectives
  • Describe integration and inequalities challenges in global oral health that have been identified by the FDI Vision 2030 and WHO Oral Health Action Plan.
  • Formulate protocols for future work, with identification of not only what are the research priorities but also who will be given the responsibility for doing it.
  • Use this as a template for action based research agendas in relation to oral and general health and wellbeing for the SDGs.
