    Description

    Cannabis for medical purpose poses serious occupational health and safety challenges to employers. A review of current medical and scientific consensus will be conducted followed by a review of case law. An employer-based program approach will be proposed and illustrated using case examples.

    Learning Objectives

    1. Recognize the limited evidence in support of Medicinal Cannabis.
    2. Understand the associated potential benefits and adverse effects
    3. Be aware that the legal framework varies by States.
    4. Familiarize with a proposed employer-based policy
    5. Analyze case examples illustrating OH&S challenges

    • Dr. Michel Lacerte

      Dr. Michel Lacerte is an Associate Professor with the PM&R Department at Western University, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, Ontario. He is the occupational physician of Canadian Kaiser Aluminum plant. He co-authored with Dr. Donald Shrey Principles and Practices of Disability Management in Industry. He also participated in the ACOEM Guidance Statement on Preventing Needless Work Disability by Helping People Stay Employed.

    • Jason Mandlowitz

      Mr. Jason Mandlowitz has been a management consultant with over 30 years of experience in business and program administration dealing with private and public sector clients. Mr. Mandlowitz is a former executive director for the Ontario Ministry of Labor Office of the Employer Advisor He has extensive experience in addressing employer's issues through mediation, arbitration, collective agreements and policy development.
