Description

The Occupational Requirements Survey (ORS) is a new data set developed via a partnership with the Social Security Administration and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This data set is slated to eventually replace the DOT. ORS provides updated mental, physical, environmental and cognitive demands for occupations found in today's labor market. ORS has additional data on topics such as sit/stand and pace that has never been collected before.

    Dr. Michelle Aliff, Ph.D., CRC, CVE is a Vocational Expert and Rehabilitation Counselor. Dr. Aliff has a Ph.D. in Special Education, and a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. Dr. Aliff is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and Certified Vocational Evaluator Specialist (CVE). She started her career out in the private sector and was recruited for an assistant professor position in a Masters of Rehabilitation Counseling Program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She decided after six years she greatly missed private practice and started her own in Texas. She has provided and continues to provide vocational rehabilitation services for over 20 years to many populations. Dr. Aliff provides expert testimony regarding a person’s ability to work and potential earning capacity in state and federal courts. She testifies in cases related to personal injury, discrimination, wrongful death, and ADA accommodations. She also serves as a vocational expert in the Social Security system.

    Dr. Aliff was recently appointed to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Data User Advisory Committee where she provides feedback on all BLS data products. Dr. Aliff has served her profession through IARP. She currently serves as Special Projects director, focusing on governmental affairs and policy. She also served as Past Chair for the IARP SSVE board after serving four years as the Chair. She served on the CRCC board, last serving as Vice President in 2022.
