  • Marianne Smith Edge

    Marianne Smith Edge, MS, RD, LD, FADA is Senior Advisor, Science & Consumer Insights for the International Food Information Council (IFIC) and Foundation in Washington, DC, a nonprofit organization that effectively communicates sound, science-based information on nutrition and food safety to health professionals, educators, government officials, journalists and consumers. From 2010 to 2015, Smith Edge served as the senior vice-president, nutrition & food safety communications for the organization, directing the overall nutrition and food safety strategic initiatives of the organization, IFIC Foundation consumer research and external collaborations. Smith Edge is an experienced nutrition communicator, strategic planner, and facilitator with over 25 years of experience. Prior to joining IFIC, she was the owner of MSE and Associates, LLC providing strategic nutrition consulting services for the food and healthcare industry. Smith Edge’s nutrition expertise includes nutrition communications, healthy aging and food allergies. She is a nationally recognized speaker in health, wellness and food systems issues and has authored or co-authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications. Smith Edge is a past president of The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and received the ADA Medallion Award in 2009. Smith Edge is also a member of the Institute for Food Technologists (IFT), International Association of Food Protection (IAFP) and the American Society for Nutrition (ASN). She currently services on the One Health Commission Board of Directors and completed two terms on the USDA National Research, Extension, Education, & Economics Advisory Board, the advisory board to the Secretary of Agriculture. Smith Edge holds a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from the University of Kentucky where she was a member of the Board of Trustees (2000-06) and a master’s degree in public health-nutrition from Western Kentucky University. In August 2009, she earned a certification in Appreciative Inquiry from the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University.

  • Bill Layden

    Based in Chicago, Illinois, Bill is a FoodMinds partner and specializes in leveraging food and nutrition science and policy to achieve client objectives. Bill has been at the forefront of national issues, including child obesity, food safety, biotechnology and nutrition profiling. He provides strategic counsel across FoodMinds’ portfolio and has designed several programs to transform consumer and thought leader mindsets on the nutritional value of foods and beverages. He has also been the senior strategist for national science symposia that changed policy, influenced national dialogue or launched products.

  • Nitin Joshi

    Dr. Nitin Joshi, is a Vice President of Product Development at Dairy Management Inc., supporting Pizza Hut business. He has several years of experience working with various food and dairy products. Recently Nitin has relocated to Pizza Hut’s head quarter in Plano, TX from New Jersey, where he worked at Campbell Soup Company. His impact on their business included product development and commercialization, ingredient innovation, cost optimization, quality improvements, and talent management. While at Campbell Nitin touched many products and brands such as: Prego, V8, Goldfish, Campbell’s and few others. Prior to Campbell Nitin was a faculty researching on various dairy products and teaching food/dairy processing courses. Nitin started his professional career working as a product developer with Vadilal Ice cream company in India.

    Nitin serves on the leadership committees of the Dairy Foods Division and Product Development Division of IFT. He also held leadership positions at Great Plains, Philadelphia and Long Horn sections of IFT. Nitin is a member of jury for various award committees, organizer and moderator of webcasts and symposia, and competitions judge at IFT’s college bowl, oral and poster competitions.

    Nitin is a peer reviewer for a variety of scientific journals, including the Journal of Food Science, Journal of Dairy Science, and the Journal of Food Science and Technology. He has published more than 40 research and technical papers in international publications (including chapters in Encyclopedia of Dairy Science). Nitin has been a judge to various science fairs at South Dakota, Philadelphia-New Jersey-Delaware (tri state) and Dallas areas.

    Nitin earned his doctorate from South Dakota State University and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Gujarat Agricultural University in Anand, India. Nitin also holds a degree of Certified Food Scientist (CFS).
