Introduction: The influential French Renaissance writer Michel de Montaigne observed in his essay “Of the Resemblance of Children to their Fathers” that, “[t]here never was in the world two opinions alike, no more than two hairs or two grains; the most universal quality is diversity.” Diversity abounds, whether we appreciate it or not, and it is important that our judicial bench reflects the diversity of the world in which it sits.
