An attorney can claim
Illinois CLE credit for attending an out-of-state course if the course is held
using live technology:
Course Held Via Live Technology
The course was held via live audio
or live video and it was accredited for CLE credit in any other U.S. state with
a comparable MCLE accreditation process. [NOTE: we are a pre-approved provider in Pennsylvania which is included in the IL
list of 43 U.S. states with comparable CLE accreditation processes.]
In order to actually get the
credit, you have to add the course to your MCLE record on the
MCLE Board’s website – most courses provide a document which includes the bulk of what you need to fill out the
form AND what the board is asking for in terms of “proof” or additional
information. Apparently, you must also pay a $15.00 non-refundable flat fee. Here are the steps
directly from their website:
Calculating Illinois CLE Credit
for Attending a Qualifying Course
- When adding credit for attendance at a qualifying course, you may notice that the Illinois CLE credits you earn don’t match the number the of credits documented on your attendance certificate from the course. These two numbers may differ because one or both of these situations applies:
- The course was approved in a 50-minute state so the hours are converted to Illinois' 60-minute hour;
- Illinois rounds total credits down to the nearest quarter hour.
- [NOTE: The program specific document generally includes these calculations.]
- To add this type of credit to your record, login to the MCLE Board's website.
- Click the “I want to...” drop down menu in the upper right corner, and select “Add Out-of-State Credits”.
- Follow the steps to add the attendance credit.
- During the process you will need to upload proof of your attendance at the course. [NOTE: Each course includes a printable Certificate of Completion once all the required course elements have been met.]
- After inputting the required information, you will be promoted to pay the $15.00 flat fee by credit card or check.
- The general Illinois CLE credits from this activity will automatically be added to your list of reported credits after the Board receives the $15.00 payment.
