National Conversation on Civility: Traditions of Civility

Civility, a tradition both home and abroad.

The tradition of civility in the practice of law has been around since Magna Carta. The American Inns of Court were founded on the tradition of the English Inn of Court system and believes that civility is a cornerstone of the legal profession. This program allows you to listen and continue to contribute to the conversation about its importance.

Start by watching a recording of the panel discussion held at the Library of Congress. The panel offered unique perspectives from esteemed British barristers and judges about the tradition of civility and the positive impact it can have on both one’s career and the greater legal system.

Next, you'll watch a live audience Q&A which delves further into the issues. Cap things off with a listen to the continued conversation via webinar. Test your knowledge with a short assessment, and make a personal plan for civility in your practice and daily life.
