The Core Competencies

.

Purpose of the core competencies

Any individual in the field of parks, recreation, and conservation will tell you that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts," to quote Aristotle.

We recognize that our duties are vast and interdisciplinary, overlapping with the day-to-day activities of our colleagues. From agency to agency, each job position is unique, as evident by the variation between job titles of superintendent, manager, and supervisor. That's why IPRA University isn't focusing on learning based on your job title : we're focusing on learning based on your responsibilities.

The Eight Core Competencies are mutually shared domains of the whole of your career. These broad distinctions are relevant to all of us, whether you're a part time seasonal staff or a life long public servant.

Every employee engages with the community members they serve. Every employee completes mandatory compliance training. Every employee plays a role in organizational development. The weight of the responsibility will vary dependent on your tenure in the industry.  That's why IPRA University distinguishes these sub-competencies based on their knowledge level : Foundational, Proficient, and Advanced.

Furthermore, each core competency is broken down into sub-competencies, featuring foundational skills, proficiency skills, and advanced skills. With more than 10 skills to discover per sub-competency, and 31 current sub-competencies, there is a tremendous path before you to explore!
