Transformative design methods: Where are we and what works?

Prof. Julie Linsey and Dr. Michael Helms, design theorists from Georgia Tech's department of Mechanical Engineering, will lead an exploratory roundtable discussion regarding the adoption and use of novel techniques to drive transformative design, such as biologically inspired design and patent mining, with a focus on understanding the catalysts for and barriers to their use. They will also briefly discuss the research goals of their NSF sponsored Magnifying Innovation project.
