Session Speakers:
Professor Heidi J Larson

Dan Carucci, MD, MSc, PhD
Jonathan Kennedy, PhD

Public participation and acceptance of vaccine programs require trust to succeed, which necessitates transparency and education. Consistent with the theme of creating and embracing opportunities in a time of transformation, discussions will focus on the causes of vaccine hesitancy and how barriers to vaccine use can be addressed through specific evidence based educational content and how they can be best delivered. This will include better education and transparency around vaccine clinical trial design and supporting protocols that are in place for safety monitoring to ensure vaccines are both safe and effective. In addition, faculty will address the who, what, when and where of education, including the roles and responsibilities of industry companies that develop vaccines and the medical communications companies that work as trusted advisors with them in this public service.

Learning objectives:
  • Understand major global healthcare achievements realized through vaccination programs
  • Identify causes of recent growing vaccine hesitancy and their consequences
  • Propose stake holder roles and responsibilities for public education for vaccines
  • Identify educational topics and formats to effectively reduce vaccine hesitancy
